  Imogene Arctor
Imogene Arctor

Well, I've spent the past two months (seriously) riding the Second Life Learning Curve.

Being asked by the Boomer Esiason Foundation to help populate the beautiful island they built, I was excited to begin bringing the island visitors and maybe even inhabitants from our cysticfibrosis.com site.

I knew the first step for me was to feel comfortable in the Second Life arena.

It's hard to believe I entered Second Life last September as Imogene Arctor.

I love my name. I got to choose my first name, a no brainer..

Imogene, was the name given to me by my best friend, Sara Roselli, who died in 1996, multiple sclerosis.

Every time, I use the name, I know she's with me. And sometimes when I wonder how this community came to be in 1996.....I know she never left me!

The last name I chose from a list of Second Life pre-determined names. I didn't think much of it, but as usually happens...Arctor...probably one of the first names on the list, ended up being a perfect choice for me...
Arc...Noah
Arc of the Covenant
Joan of Arc...my patron saint

Last September, I thought it would be easy, I'll just do this and catch on in a few minutes...yeah...right...

NOT

I've spent a lot of hours trying to master my avatar and my surroundings and now I can finally say...

I'm ready to help you...I think we can knock some hours off the newbie experience...and begin a Second Life~

Of course, this has not been the case for many of you, your avatars caught on instantly.

I'm enjoying the island, but especially the friendships I've made.

Marjolein Rozenberg

Takes me shopping for freebies and makes me laugh a lot with all her different outfits and places to go. When Imogene Arctor feels lonely, I can count on MR to give me a lift...

on her magic carpet (she got me one too)...

We relax on the yoga rugs...

When you're ready for a magic carpet ride, Marjolein and I are happy to take you...

Scottius Polk

I go to his galleries and buy his art ranging in price from 150-400 Lindens...250 lindens = $1.00

I even got to vote for him at one of his galleries...did you win Scottius?

Sometimes we meet early in the morning and dream about the events that someday will take place on CF Island.

To be continued...as I show you around my office (I know you'll love the artwork).

It really does take hours to master. I ran out of patience putting together my avatar, but now that I'm home for the summer, I might put in some more time.

You make it seem so fun!

Oh wow - this seems so interesting. I don't know that I have enough hours in the day to check it out, but it sounds like a blast.

Marjolein is a great tour guide! She took me to see your office. I haven't had as much time to visit SL as I would like. Hopefully I'll get to visit again soon. I look forward to seeing you there.

In Second Life, I'm the Scottius Polke that Jeanne mentioned. Jeanne has really become quite the decorator in SL. She has set up a introductory meeting area, conference table, lounge area and meditation area in her spacious office. I'm of course happy that she has populated the area with some of my art pieces too!

We have a little group of folks there now, and would love to help anyone transition into SL. Right now, a lot of the time when you go to the island you might not see anyone, but if you do a search for our full Second Life names (eg. Imogene Arctor, Scottius Polke) you can send one of us a Second Life IM if you have questions...which you will!

Making a post here on cysticfibrosis.com in the Second Life topic announcing that you have made a character will also be helpful. If you put in the full name of the character, that you need some help, and an approximate time when you might be on, we could more easily be on the lookout for you. Just keep in mind that, being a small group so far, that we might not always meet up.

Jeanne -
I, of course know how hard you are working in Second Life. It is an amazing opportunity for us to consider. You are a true visionary and have a penchant for the future of healthcare and the online community.

Your diligence and attention to detail as you construct the ideas for the future of CysticFibrosis.com are unmatched... and exciting! Your efforts seem to be rewarded each day by reaching the next level - and in your mind, I know how high you set the bar and must reach. I, like the CF online community, await your next move as the momentum builds around here!

Working for the community on collaborations such as Second Life and mapping uncharted waters is undoubtedly your forte. For those of you who want to know Jeanne....you must catch her! Her hunger for the next "new thing" and next levels of healthcare and technology are insatiable!

Now...when do you have the time to get me up and running on Second Life? I need to practice some Yoga too!

Thanks everyone for your comments, emails and and pms.

I get so excited at the thought of all we can do on the web with messages (now close to 300,000), blogs, videos and now our own virtual island.

I don't say this ever but know that I'm thinking the cure is at hand right here...with all of us!

There really isn't anywhere a brighter and more ready group.

This is 21st century thinking of course.

Jane: I'm ready for you my friend. I am so happy for Josh and Jesse and the relaxing summer that is at hand. I'll You can PM me and we'll get your avatar up and running...

Heather...it is a blast and even your classes would enjoy it beyond any of your expectations....I say arguably it's a must for you in the field of education

Anastasia...there are jobs for you...we need you!

Marjolein and Scottius...see you later~

SarahK...your avatar is waiting....Marjolein and Rachel (my new intern) are dressing her.
(We'll do this for anyone!)
