  Birthday Week Setback
So my birthday is thursday and I had the whole week planned with fun stuff: a blind date, getting tan by the pool, karaoke on my birthday with friends, going downtown with my girls to dance, and finishing the week with a trip to cedar point. Instead I am sitting in a hospital room hooked up to a pulse ox and o2 constantly, seems I have managed to catch pneumonia, first time I've ever had it. Needless to say I'm disappointed. . . . . (plus its really annoying trying to type with the pulse ox monitor on my finger)

This year is just not going well at all, I think total I've been ivs about 4 out of 6 months. Its just frustrating, I get done with meds, I do all my treatments and take good care of myself and a week or two later I catch some kind of bug that's going around and I'm right back on meds. I'm not going to seal myself up in a bubble to keep from getting sick, that's no kind of life to livw, but at the same time I can't keep doing meds every month.

I just want to be able to live my life and have fun and try to live as much like a normal 21 (almost 22) year old. Oh and the other bad news the 6 pounds I worked so hard to gain I've managed to lose half of in the last week

I am having a rough birthday week too. I almost wish I was in the hospital so that I could hide from my family.

Hugs to you!

I'm sorry this week has been rough, I really hope you have a good birthday. Maybe if you eat a lot of cake you'll get some weight back? (now I want cheese cake...YUM) I hope the week gets better and your year too!

Look you don't have to live permanently in a bubble, but you need to realise that the IVs are very hard on our systems and totally destroy our immune response every time we are on them - the longer you are on them, the more depressed your immune system will be afterwards. So next time you finish IV's, just be very careful for the next 2-3 weeks. Stay out of public as much as you can, avoid children completely, take loads of vitamins, minerals, supplements including probiotics twice a day. Whenever you have been out in public, do not touch your face (mouth, nose or eyes) and as soon as you get back home thoroughly wash your hands with a good soap and hot water and dry them well. Get plenty of sleep and do some moderate exercise at least three times a week.

All this will boost your immune system back up and you should be good to go again, although the not touching your face, frequent hand washing and the taking of supplements and vitamins, are things you should continue to do all the time.

I have not had a cold, flu or virus for nearly twelve months following these simple steps and have been on several rounds of IVs in this time. Good luck.

I completely know what you mean and what you feel like. My only advice is small- but it helps me. Put the pulse ox on your toe. It often reads just as well for me cause I can't keep my hands still.

BTW- while it's fine advice to follow, it is not proven that antibiotics destroy our immune systems. The whole concept of them hurting our immune response just doesn't make sense
