IPADS and my grands
I got a new IPAD about a month ago. I had given away my laptop a few months ago and thought it could replace it.
I am not an Apple person so I was immensely disappointed to start. It felt uncomfortable to hold and it doesn't have the real keypad. I guess the reason I am writing this today is because I have done a 180, even to the point of "needing" to tell my CF community about this revolutionary tool. I use it with 3 of my grandkids all the time and I made a little FLIP 2 minute movie. IPAD I think the reason it would be so good for this community is after you pay the initial $500.00 then the apps for the kids (anyway) are free or .99 or $1.99. They are so creative and educational. Julia at 5 and a half has learned so much math and Jack practices his letters and Gianna loves the songs and stories. As a teacher, I can see this tool is revolutionary and with this CF community it would fit as many of you home school or because the children may miss school due to tune-ups. I see this as a fun way to keep the children on track. I know the initial expense is huge and that's why I am daring to hope through sponsors we can give away lots of IPADS. For now, if you are a contributing member with over 1,000 messages please let me know if you would like to be on the IPAD giveaway list! Jeanne ------------------------- Administrator/Moderator |

What adorable kiddos! That's a great video, and I can see how it would be a great teaching tool. You're right - it would be perfect for kids in the hospital. What a great idea.
I need to look into any aps they may have for older kids. Mason struggles with spelling & gramar, and I think this might be a helpful tool for him. You're never too old to learn in a fun way right?! Thanks for sharing your grands with us, and thank you for all that you do to make this site the best! Thanks for making that video, Jeanne. It never occurred to me that there would be such practical uses for the kids with this. I would think that a bunch of good kids apps and the ipad would make for an amazing time diversion for Alyssa when in the hospital.
I hope you can get sponsorship, we'd love to have a chance on the giveaway list. Oh, and your Grands are toooo cute!!! Heather ------------------------- Heather --- momma to Alyssa (born Jan 2006 with CF), and Reese (6) & Richie (9) -- both CF carriers

Loved the video and seeing first hand some of the apps used. Loved the fish app and your grandchildren are so adorable.
Most of my friends/relatives who've gotten the I-pad are those who always get the newest in technology. So I haven't paid much attention to the hype. I'm too frugal, have a newer laptop.... However, seeing your video, guess I need to take another look. ------------------------- Liza mom to kiddo wcf (homozygous delta f508) |

I would love an Ipad. My hubby Keith said a gentleman came into his work and had one and was showing him everything. Keith came home and said I found something I know you are gonna want. LOL!
Lately Austin has been telling me he wants an Ipad. I just laugh at him. We are down to just my laptop and I won''t let him play on it. Thanks for showing the video. I would like to be in the drawing also. If I need to post more messages I will LOL! ------------------------- Paula, Mother of 5 boys.....one w/cf Austin 9 Grandma to 1 boy and 2 girls. |

I've played around with one a bit at a tech seminar, but I've never had a chance to use one with my girls or my kids at school. I'm SURE my girls would love it, and, like Heather said, it would be an awesome diversion while in the hospital, or even on those day long clinic visit days.
We are all getting FLip cameras for our classrooms next year (I think...if the grant went through) so now I'm off to watch your video. I'd love to be on the list too. I never thought about how many posts I have, but, I just checked and it's over 2,000! WOW! Thanks for sharing your opinions! ------------------------- Tami mom to Isabelle 7 yo no cf (She is smart, funny, loves dance and piano lessons) and Emily 4 yo w/ cf (F508, R533x) (She is smart, funny, SASSY, stubborn and active. I am a MAC girl. I love my laptop. I love that I could take it out of the box and use it immediately.
I tweek pictures for my blog with the Iphoto program and I organize my life with the Ical program. When I am doing my treatment I play with the Photo Booth program. Hubby showed me the Ipads--- COOL!! He thinks they would be good for tune ups-- I agree!!! ------------------------- 37 yrs old with CF (diagnosed at age 15) Delta 508/2789 + 5G to A CFRD and Enlarged Thyroid |

I agree with you completely. Schools are so reluctant to let iPads or iTouch techonolgy into school- but I use my iTouch as a graphing calculator in trig/precalc- and for 99 cents it does a huge amount more than my TI83 which cost about $90.
